Looking back at you, standing at the window
Watery moonlight floats on your pillow
Wiggles down sheets bunched around your slumbering body
All at once fluid, serene, yet choppy
A gust of wind sends a shadowed branch see-sawing
It draws a black line in the silvery waves, sleepwalking
The bed linens, canvas and harbinger
Heart beating fast on the tip of my forefinger
That I press in the middle groove of upper lip
Shushing sad words so they don't spill out and rip
The delicate fabric, this moment that is us
Silent, forgiving, willing to adjust
Yet truth is in a rush;
babe don't wake up, hush, hush
The weight of the stars crush
I thought love would be enough
