That I have been by the sea
I can give proof to thee:
In my summer hair
remains a minute of salt...
 
I once did truly cry,
and that this is no vain lie,
you will see from the shady track
tears left under my eye...
 
All seasons have I seen
and night and day and foreign gleam,
and everything my fingers touched
is written
within the palm of my hand...
 
Yet for one thing in this world, I lack evidence:
That I love you, my friend!
